Re: Are you afraid of death?
I'm more afraid of Alzheimers/dementia - Dignitas for me.

Friends are often surprisprised about my survival. They didn't think my life style would sustain healthy sperm - I have 2 kids with my ex (def my own).

It wasn't fear of death, but fear of not doing everything I wanted to before I died and spending time dealing with wankers at work, that caused me to give up work at 54.

Hunter S Thompson had it right: Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

I still cane it - just take longer to recover (well I can as I don't have to get up for work!).

Re: Are you afraid of death?
Terrified, i have 3 young daughters and a 4th little girl on the way (all with the same woman, the wife). My eldest is severely physically disabled and the thought of not being here for her started my fear but the absolute all consuming love i have for them and the thought of not being here and putting them and the wife through emotional pain sometimes keeps me awake at night.

That said i have a very positive outlook on life and certainly don’t let it prevent me from enjoying myself and my life.

Anyway none of my daughters have reached puberty yet so ask me again in 10yrs at which point i may have had enough of of stroppy teenagers and a menopausal wife and long for the sweet release of the reaper!!!!

Re: Are you afraid of death?
I think about it all the time. You wouldn't know it to look at me but I'm on loads of different medication and injections for one thing or the other that fuck my insides up (see the 'have you ever shit yourself' thread).

Started to piss blood on Friday (thought I might have overstrained something at the gym) so spent a pleasant afternoon in A&E yesterday as it was getting slowly worse.

Getting treated for a urinery tract infection (although the doctor doubted it actually is because I feel absolutely fine) and an appointment in a couple of weeks for a 'fairly unpleasant' proceedure if I'm still bleeding.

My pants look like a fucking World War 1 Somme dressing station!

Still, worse things happen at sea apparently.

As Woody Allen said, "I don't want to live forever in my fans' hearts, I want to live forever in my apartment".

Re: Are you afraid of death?
Was in bed with my wife, the night she died after 2 years with cancer. I knew when she was going to die although I am not certain if she did.

Up to that point I didn't want to confront the issue of wills, the future and the acceptance of death.

Everything changed. Comfortable with the whole thing. The wife was completely calm as she stared into the abyss.

Unthinkable to die, aged 50, with a 9 year old.

I follow the Dead Skeletons mantra - he who fears death cannot enjoy life.

Re: Are you afraid of death?
The last year has been a bit of a wake up call diagnosed with Cirrhosis with no prognosis if I start drinking again i'll die but the remaining part of my liver which isn't scarred is coping at the moment with it's many functions.
Some days I accept the situation and others scare the shit out of me.
You think that you're indestructible but sadly your not !

Sorry to hear that. Dementia can be painfully sapping for close relatives. I wish you much patience and support for what's ahead.
